Grenada Education and Development Project
The Grenada Education and Development Project (GRENED) is dedicated to partnering with rural communities to use education as a catalyst for individual and communal transformation in Grenada. Communities and GRENED work to promote sustainable economic and social development by producing educated, socially engaged citizens and leaders, with an emphasis on women and youth.
Through a wholistic approach to education, GRENED supports communities in eradicating rural poverty and achieving social uplifting. Our vision is that Grenadians receive ample opportunity and resources to achieve economic self-determination and social equality; and for each individual to engage her greatest potential-ultimately, to contribute to uplifting and enriching Grenada and the world.
Our specific programs in Grenada:
- Scholarships for high school and vocational school students
- Adult mentors for school children
- Summer-science learning retreats for kids with teachers
- "LIVELY KIDS" radio program
- Youth Committee for leadership skill development
- National Book distribution programs
- Writers and reading groups
GRENED founder and coordinator is Dr. Dessima Williams, who can be contacted at: grened@caribsurf.com.
